Oral b is best electric tb out there due to oscillo-rotating bristles which are superior to sonic. However the oral b 1000 or 2000 has the same speed as the 4000 , 5000 or 6000+ so no point getting the more expensive product really. But is really is a good brush.
Bought this unit to replace an old pro care 9000 braun toothbrush that was worn out. We never used the full range of cleaning options on the 9000 and wanted something a bit more simple (and cheaper), so opted for the 4000 unit. The brush performs well and in every respect works just as well as the unit it replaced, we do not miss the lcd display of the 9000, the charge indicator lights are more than sufficient although the flashing red pressure indicator light is a bit bright – if the brush just cut out it would be more than enough. The 30 second brief cut out for each quadrant of the mouth can be a nuisance and you do find yourself in a race to try and finish each sector in time with the light. Charging is ever so slow, from dead flat to full can take over 28 hours, if you can leave it plugged in live all the time guess it will not be a problem – if like us you do not have a shaver socket in the bathroom then you end up running the brush down before charging and it becomes a problem.
I bought two of these last year; one for my self and one for my husband. For some unknown reason, mine stopped charging and eventually working. I know it must be under warranty but there aren’t any contact info on amazon for this type of problem. I either would like a repair or a replacement. Help pleaseotherwise, i have been using oral b toothbrushes for over a decade now without any problems.
Good toothbrush which i have used everyday for about 2 years. That said i have only ever required one speed. The large stand also takes up a bit too much real-estate in the bathroom. Therefore i would say it’s probably best to save a few pounds and buy the slightly cheaper model.

These toothbrushes are the ultimate in cleaning design at the moment. Of course you need to use them as directed. The initial pack has a sample of each kind of available brush head for you to try. We use the ‘flossie’ one, it seems to penetrate spaces between teeth better than the others. Note also the strong blue plastic box for you to take the brush for its holidays, accompanied by a couple of brush heads to keep it company.
Excellent toothbrush, just wish the battery would last longer. After having it for a year or so now the battery only stays on 3 bars of charge after one use. However this hasn’t affected the performance like my previous one, it still cleans brilliantly.
The build quality is better than the 3000 (but on amazon the price is cheaper than the 3000 at tesco). I don’t think the added settings are actually that useful. We have two people using this at home and the novelty of the diamond and ‘plus’ settings is just that – a novelty. Bottom line, before work you won’t try a new fangled vibration setting on your teethi do think electric toothbrushes are noticeably better than non-electric. The quality of cleaning is better and more efficientthis toothbrush has one annoyance which i should mention. The charging takes about 14 hours. Sure on a full charge it will go nearly a whole week’s worth of use, but when you charge it, do not expect laptop or phone levels of charging. This is inductive charging (on a stand) and it takes a long time. So best leave it to charge overnight. Not a major issue as the charger will plug into the two pin ‘shaver’ plug in any bathroomps – i have no comparison to the philips as i have never used it but by all accounts its as good if not better making this a personal preference.
